Calling all lurkers. Come out, come out, wherever you are!

As the diagram on the left demonstrates, the link last week from Andrew Sullivan saw a massive spike in visits to this site. As you can also see, it soon dramatically levelled off again. But it seems that a few more people than usual are coming back for more, as overall traffic is still slightly higher than usual.

But comments are still pretty rare as a percentage. So I thought it would be a good (and, admittedly, slightly tacky) idea to see who you transitory readers actually are. Seems like a fair few of you pass through every day, have a read, then swan off again.

So here's an an invitation to all lurkers to come out of the shadows and use the comments feature. Nothing too extravagant required: just a quick hello and maybe even a few words about yourself and where you live if you're feeling daring. Say whatever takes your fancy.

Go on, be a devil. Introduce yourself.

I've been lurking here for a few weeks, since just before the Sullivan spike. I like the site - I salute your courage, your strength, your indefatigability.

I'm not a lurker; instead I'm a lurcher (see link below) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lurcher. When I'm not smoking cigarettes, playing snooker and chasing hares, I like nothing more than to sit down and have a good old read of Liberal Elite. I too salute your courage, your strength, and your indefatigability.

I got hooked via Slightly Mad a while ago (I work with PP) Do I count?

My courage, my strength and my indefatigabilty acknowledge your salutations and send them right back atchya.

Lurchers are particularly welcome.

dh - Yes, indeed, you count. Although all the initials can get a bit confusing sometimes: regular commenters include ph, da, dw, h and now yourself. . . .

I'm part of the Sullivan Boom, but stayed and read all posts back to the first. Guess you know I'm hooked now. I'm in the US (don' hold it against me) and apparently a left leaning libertarian. I'm not thrilled with all the anti-religion screeches, but at least I get it. You've been bookmarked!

I've actually been regularly visiting this site for months but have never left a comment. So congratulations on luring me out of my proverbial shell. I live in Oldham and am a college student.
It's a lovely site and long may it reign.

I'm a long suffering "accquaintance" of The Realist (he'd be offended if I called myself anything more than that). I am mourning his passing on this site (for a few mins at least).

Well I've been here all along but I haven't commented for ages and I've forgotten my old display name. Keep up the good work, although it was a shame that the good looking one decided to go.

I'm just glad the better of the two bloggers decided to stay put!

Brytta - Glad you're sticking around! Very impressed that you read all the historic posts. Point taken about the 'anti-religion screeches'. They're few and far between now (I don't think there's anything else to say on that subject). Welcome.

Anonymous student from Oldham - glad you're out of your shell. Hope to see you in the comments sometime.

Devil's Advocate - oh yes, you're a Lib Elite hardy perennial now. I've been frequenting your blog too. Hope you keep it up.

Geoff Champagne - not sure what your old name was, but love the new one.

Meike - no comment!

I do enjoy a good lurk.

I'm just here for the turbot. The antipodean wing of the "People Who Hate People" party has a thriving membership of 1 and will drop by to monitor your feeble pinko drivel on an essentially random basis. It's all ashes in my mouth.

I’m another who came across from Andrew Sullivan’s site. I was pleasantly surprised to see a number of my favourites in your links section so I thought I’d have a bit of a scratch around. Read your mission statement and liked what I saw. While i'm more a (benign) lurker than poster, i will try to make a bit more of an effort in future.

cheers,
chris.

Not only did the better looking one stay, but also the most talented ;-)

Been following you since your Newsfelch days. I read alot of blogs, but LE is definitely one of the best.

sparx said...

Part lurker, part social commentator. Posting depends on my mood and my grasp of the events currently under discussion.

Laura said...

Just an all round general fan. But you knew that already

Max - You're right. I like a good lurk myself. But don't forget: it makes you go blind.

Hardy Farmer - Hmmm. I wonder who you could be??

Chris From As-tray-ya - G'day Chris. Thanks for reading.

Ian - Again, no comment.

Joe - since Newsfelch. Wow. You are old school!

Sparx - Another hardy perennial of the LibElite comments sections. And also around since the Newsfelch days if I recall.

Laura - We owe you for the big plug you gave the site from day one on Bridget Who? Thanks v.m.!

So there you have it. Lots of new faces and some old. Welcome to all.

Anyone else out there?

I think I got here via Bridget Who too. And hey, I've brought you at least one lurker and one rather eloquent commenter.

Citizen Sane said...

Oh Parrot! I wondered how you found your way here. Much obliged for bringing others with you too.

Rachie said...

I've been lurking (and occasionally commenting) since Bridget pointed the way over here.

I like your caustic approach to fools and charlatans, although my lack of comments is probably a result of my deep-seated fear of being exposed as one of them.

Love the Galloway stuff, by the way.

Found you completely by accident one night when I found myself idly clicking on the 'next blog' button at the top of a friend's blog. Liked LE so much I linked to it on my own.

I don't comment much, only if I think I have something to add to the subject under discussion. But I do read and enjoy every day.

Rachie - I've had the occasional lurk at your blog too. You have nothing to fear by commenting.

Warren - Good idea. It feels like that kind of moment.

Joules - You win best blogging alias.
